Bequests

Leave your legacy by making a gift in your will or living trust to friends, family and UNM. A bequest is one of the simplest ways to remember those you care about most.

A bequest in your will or living trust is an uncomplicated way to make a gift to UNM.

A bequest may take several forms. It can be specific sum, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after expenses and gifts to loved ones.

Bequests can include cash, securities, real estate, houses, and personal property such as valuable collections, art, or jewelry.

Charitable Trusts

A Charitable Trust can be used to transfer assets to children or others at a significantly reduced tax liability. The trust makes a fixed payment to UNM for a specified term, measured either by your life or a selected number of years. After the trust term ends, the assets of the trust are either returned to you or passed on to children or other loved ones.

In the example where the assets are to be returned to you, you receive an income tax deduction when the trust is created. If the assets are passed on to heirs, applicable estate or gift taxes on the value of the gift are reduced or completely eliminated.

The tax savings from a Charitable Trust may allow you to provide significant support for UNM at little or no cost to heirs in terms of ultimate inheritance.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A Charitable Gift Annuity is an effective way for you to make a transfer of cash or property to UNM. In exchange, you will receive a fixed payment for the remainder of your life, at a very attractive rate.

In addition to providing you a fixed income, a Charitable Gift Annuity offers several attractive income tax advantages.

Upon your death, the remainder of the Charitable Gift Annuity immediately transfers to the area at UNM which you most want to support.
