Scholarship to Honor a Student's Memory
Raymond Plotkin, a freshman from Houston, Texas, started class in August 2009 as a freshman interested in Chemical and Nuclear Engineering. On November 11, Raymond died suddenly from the H1N1 flu. Donor Endows Scholarship
Music has emotive power that transcends experience, generation and ideology. Whether driven by a progressive melody or the soothing sounds of a trickling stream, music creates an enduring impression in the minds and hearts of listeners. Painters may transform a blank canvas into a priceless piece of art, but musicians transform silence into an environmental experience. Calla Ann Pepmueller believes these qualities brand music one of the most powerful forces available, which prompted her to bequeath the Arlin and Calla Ann Music Scholarship to the UNM Department of Music. Arthur A. Blumenfeld Endowed Lecture Series Serves Public Good via Financial Education
While essential in establishing financial prosperity, budgets do little good if the people writing the checks are financially uneducated. Arthur Blumenfeld believed this is a primary component in the downfall of many governments. He worked to improve the financial education of those serving in the public sector to create a more efficient, money-savvy government. After his death in 2000, Blumenfeld’s family and friends established the Arthur A. Blumenfeld Endowed Lecture Series to honor his work and perpetually maintain his legacy. Read more.

Plein Foundation Endows Scholarship for Navajo Nursing Students
The national nursing shortage is reaching dangerous levels. Throughout the country nurses work long, arduous shifts that leave them weary and susceptible to burn out. Hospitals serving high populations of Native Americans face unique challenges when staffing their units with non-native nurses. Most nurses have little or no exposure to Native American culture, causing language and cultural barriers. A recent endowment established by the Thomas A. Plein Foundation will help bring skilled Navajo nurses to Navajo communities. Read more. |
