Vice President and Legal Counsel: Since Nov. 2008 Sandra (Sandy) Liggett has ensured that the Foundation is acting within the law, written policy, and provided legal and risk management advice to the UNMF Board of Trustees and leadership team. Ms. Liggett came to the Foundation from UNM, where she was a member of the Office of University Counsel for three and a half years, and most recently as deputy university counsel. She served for 10 years as general counsel and vice chancellor of North Harris County Montgomery Community College District in Houston. With almost 30 years experience in higher education as inside counsel, Ms. Liggett began her career at Yale University before returning to Washington, D.C. where she used her higher education and legal skills as a federal lobbyist for Yale, a tax lobbyist for the private university presidents’ association, and general counsel to a university-created liability insurance company. Ms. Liggett earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her law degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
