Alumni Association – UNM Foundation Collaborative

Every effort we make to engage a student in the life of The University of New Mexico encourages them to graduate; every effort made by the Alumni Association and the UNM Foundation encourages our grads to be “Lobos for Life.”

In 2013, at the request of UNM President Robert G. Frank, a group of volunteers from the UNM Foundation and UNM Alumni Association boards gathered for a series of meetings to determine how these two essential organizations can plan and work together more closely for the benefit of UNM.

The Alumni Association – UNM Foundation Collaborative generated seven comprehensive recommendations. Based on that direction, they have been working together to make great things happen.

For example, with the help of UNM leadership at the UNM’s Office of Enrollment Management and many other UNM entities, more accurate data on our alumni is being acquired to make the Alumni- Foundation database as up to date as possible. Joint events have been held between the staff and volunteers of these organizations, and more are planned. Collaborative work to improve communication, from inserts in the alumni magazine Mirage to shared calendars, is in the works. These collaborative efforts are directly tied to helping UNM achieve several of the UNM 2020 institutional goals & aspirations, including Becoming a Destination University, Preparing Lobos for Lifelong Success and Ensuring Financial Integrity and Strength.

In FY 13-14, the UNM Foundation raised $87.6 million, and of those gifts 34% were contributed by alumni and friends. Together, the work of the Alumni Association and the UNM Foundation helps to keep UNM alumni connected as volunteers, mentors, advocates and as potential donors to UNM.
