12th Annual Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon a Success

The Children’s Miracle Network 12th Annual Radiothon took place on February 18 and 19. “We are so grateful to all of you who worked the event and supported this important fund raiser for UNM Children’s Hospital,” said Diana Martinez, associate director of development for the UNMF’s Children’s Miracle Network team. “Because of your amazing efforts, we were able to raise $185,000 for the kids! We appreciate all of you! Thank you!”

Jeff MacNutt Departs UNM Foundation

As you probably read in Denise’s email sent on Larry’s behalf on March 18, our colleague Jeff MacNutt has left the UNM Foundation. Jeff joined the UNM Foundation staff in September 2008 as a director for development for the College of Arts and Sciences. “Jeff has been a valuable member of our team for many years and we will miss his presence at the UNM Foundation,” said Vice President of University Development Larry Ryan. “We wish him the best of luck.” Below is the message included in the email in case you missed it:

Dear Colleagues,

I have many great memories over the last seven plus years here at the UNM Foundation, whether as emcee of the holiday party or just working together to support UNM. I hope somewhere along the way I made you smile. I have especially appreciated those who have reached out during my dad’s illness and recent passing. I am leaving the organization now to take care of some family matters. I have a deep respect and admiration for the work that you do and wish you all the best!

Kind Regards,
Jeff MacNutt

We wish YOU all the best, Jeff!

First “Round of Appaws” Drawing Winner Announced

Appaws_0416Among the many staff members who were recognized during the first month of the new UNM Foundation staff recognition program, “A Round of Appaws,” one name (of someone recognized) was randomly drawn from among the 28 slips posted on both boards by UNM Human Resources at the beginning of April to receive a $10 gift card—and the winner is . . . Sarah Fair! Congrats to Sarah, who receives a $10 Satellite Coffee gift card.

Thank you to everyone who has recognized many of our staff members and their efforts this month. And congratulations to those who were acknowledged! Remember that the “Round of Appaws” boards will remain up in the upstairs and downstairs lobbies, so you can “paws” and give thanks at any time and help us recognize the great work that happens every day at the Foundation! Please note, if you work outside of the central office at Two Woodward, you can download this electronic form on SharePoint and submit your praise for a staff member who has been exceptional. Please send completed electronic forms to Gretchen Doyle at Gretchen.Doyle@unmfund.org.

April 7 is World Health Day

World Health Day on April 7 marks the anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO), which was founded in 1948. The WHO is the leading global health authority within the United Nations System.

WHO is focusing this World Health Day on diabetes because:

1. The diabetes epidemic is rapidly increasing in many countries, with the documented increase most dramatic in low- and middle-income countries.
2. A large proportion of diabetes cases are preventable. Simple lifestyle measures have been shown to be effective in preventing or delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes. Maintaining normal body weight, engaging in regular physical activity, and eating a healthy diet can reduce the risk of diabetes.
3. Diabetes is treatable. Diabetes can be controlled and managed to prevent complications. Increasing access to diagnosis, self-management education and affordable treatment are vital components of the response.
4. Efforts to prevent and treat diabetes will be important to achieve the global Sustainable Development Goal 3 target of reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by one-third by 2030. Many sectors of society have a role to play, including governments, employers, educators, manufacturers, civil society, private sector, the media and individuals themselves.

You can visit here for more information on diabetes.

UNMF IT Department Announces Earth Day Recycling Event

Earth Day 2016 is April 22, and UNMF IT will hold its annual e-waste recycling event Friday, April 18 through Monday, April 25 at noon.  Do some spring cleaning and bring us your e-waste!

We will be partnering with New Mexico Computer Recyclers again this year.  New Mexico Computer Recyclers, in direct partnership with eRead, an educational non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, has a comprehensive computer recycle and refurbish program providing computer technologies to public, private and parochial schools throughout the state. In addition to eRead Educational Services, they work with Animal Humane, YMCA, Juvenile Justice Center and Albuquerque Rescue Mission, to name a few.

The full list of accepted items is located on their site. A sampling of the items they accept include computers, laptops, keyboards, mice, printers, VCRs, phones, and so much more.

Tax receipt forms will be outside Elizabeth Cochran’s office in Suite 203, where IT is collecting e-waste. Just grab one when you bring in your stuff.

If you need it, we have a cart for you to use. Thank you so much—and Happy Earth Day!
