UNMF Employee Giving Campaign Begins!

Editor’s note: UNMF Matching Gifts Coordinator Suzanne Eubank provided the following article.

Our annual Employee Giving Campaign officially began with a kickoff breakfast on Friday, September 30. Thank you to everyone who attended!

This year’s Employee Giving Campaign will run from October 1 through October 21. As we discussed at the kickoff breakfast, there are multiple ways to give back to our community:

Via UNM Foundation: you may give a gift to UNM in support of an area that you are passionate about! You may give directly through UNMF’s website www.unmfund.org via credit card; you may set up a payroll or EFT gift; or write a check!

Via United Way: You may designate an outside agency or give to support one of United Way’s programs, such as the Community Fund. In order for your gift to be designated to a specific organization outside of United Way, it must be a minimum of $30 annually. If you give 100 percent of your total United Way gift to another agency, 10 percent of your gift will need to be allocated to the work of United Way. However, if you are already supporting United Way’s work with 10 percent or more of your total donation, then your gift to the outside agency will not be affected. United Way forms are on the round table near Esther’s desk. United Way giving begins January 2017

Don’t forget to match your gift! A qualifying gift is one that benefits UNM, UNMH or UNMF. The minimum gift amount to match is $50. Qualifying gifts are those made during this fiscal year (July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017). Please refer to the matching gift guidelines for specific details. Your matching gift form is due in no later than June 1, 2017. Please keep in mind that gifts are matched first come, first served. Forms are on the table near Esther’s desk as well. Suzanne can email you a form or you can pick up a form on the table near Esther’s desk.

Creating or Modifying an Online Giving Page on the UNMF Website is a Breeze!

Online giving pages are a great way for donors to easily give a gift to UNM. Not all existing funds at the UNM Foundation have an online giving page, but it’s easy to create one. (And if an online giving page already exists, it’s easy to update it!)

If there is an existing fund for your school or department that needs an online giving page, the best way to have one created is by using the online giving fund request form located at https://www.unmfund.org/online-giving-fund-request-form/

This form should also be used to make changes to existing online giving pages. Complete the form as noted, except be sure to select the “existing online fund edit” check box to modify an existing page.

You’ll need the following information to complete the form for creating or updating an online giving page:

• The fund’s six-digit allocation/fund number (required)
• The fund’s full name (required)
• A short 50-60 word description of the fund (required) Please be sure to proof read and spell check your description!
• A photo that ties into the spirit of the fund (highly recommended)

Once the form is completed and the request is submitted, the UNMF Marcom staff will create the page and supply a URL to the requester. From there, the page can accept gifts immediately.

PLEASE NOTE: The Fund Establishment Form (FEF) must be completed before requesting an online giving page. For questions about the FEF form or the fund creation process, please contact Judith Davenport at 277-9600 or Judith.Davenport@unmfund.org.

For more information on UNM Foundation online giving pages, please contact Jennifer Kemp at Jennifer.Kemp@unmfund.org or Mario Lara at Mario.Lara@unmfund.org.

October is National Dental Hygiene Month

Info below comes from the American Dental Hygienists Association website
“Start the Conversation” is the slogan for the 2016 National Dental Hygiene awareness campaign. Are you ready to start the conversation?

The Daily 4

The Daily 4 represent the foundation for healthy smiles. Incorporating these steps into a regular oral health routine can have a significant impact on oral and overall health.

• Brush – Tooth brushing for two minutes two times a day helps reduce biofilm and prevent caries, gingivitis and other biofilm-related diseases.

• Floss – You know that daily proper flossing or use of other interdental cleaning methods removes biofilm and food particles that a toothbrush can’t reach. Patients need to be aware that lack of adequate care in these areas can lead to biofilm buildup, which can lead to tooth decay and periodontal disease.

• Rinse – Because teeth alone account for less than half of the mouth, patients need to be reminded not to forget about the rest. Rinsing with an antimicrobial mouth rinse helps eliminate biofilm and bacteria that brushing and flossing cannot. Partner with your patients to determine which antiseptic mouth rinse is right for them.

• Chew – Chewing sugar-free gum* after meals and snacks helps protect teeth and complements a healthy oral care routine. Patients need to understand how bacteria in the biofilm on teeth produce acid, and that this can decrease oral pH to an unsafe level. This can cause demineralization that, over time, weakens teeth and can lead to decay.

*It’s helpful to share a counter-article on the reported bad effects of chewing gum, especially sugar-free gum. The article in this website has a lot of great information.

Monthly “Round of Appaws” Winner Announced

appaws_logoThe UNM Foundation staff recognition program, “Round of Appaws,” continues to promote the great work accomplished by our employees, staff and students! Out of the many staff members who were acknowledged this past month, one name was randomly drawn by UNMF Human Resources at the beginning of October—and the winner is . . . Jenny Frame! Congrats to Jenny, who received a movie ticket.

The “Round of Appaws” boards are located in both the upstairs and downstairs lobbies at 700 Lomas. You can acknowledge a coworker for helping finish a project; for taking on a new task and doing an amazing job with it; pitching in when help was needed; or going the extra mile on a project that had a lot of challenges. With so many way to thank someone there is no shortage of “appaws”! Be sure to “paws” and give thanks to a coworker – they just might win a gift certificate next month!

For staff working outside the central office at 700 Lomas, you can download the electronic form from SharePoint and submit your praise for a staff member who has been exceptional. Please send completed electronic forms to Gretchen Doyle at Gretchen.Doyle@unmfund.org.

Please note, the best way to access SharePoint is using Internet Explorer. You will need to provide your username and password that you use to log into your email account.
