George Orwell Exhibition Catalog Fund

Perhaps no other twentieth-century author issued more persuasive, powerful warnings against the rising threats of totalitarianism, in all its manifest forms, than George Orwell. Much of what he warned against – the intentional spreading of misinformation and the debasement of language, the creation of false national histories and deliberate distortion of reality, and the denial of science and objective truth and cult of the demagogic leader – is increasingly at the heart of our politics. Thus, to engage, or reengage, with Orwell’s ideas and writings – is to educate ourselves about the mounting threats faced by free, open societies, including our own.
This catalog will create a permanent documentary record of the Center for Southwest Research’s forthcoming George Orwell exhibition, which will be featured in Zimmerman Library beginning in the fall of 2019.
