Rudolfo Anaya Sala Fund
Rudolfo Anaya has had a lasting impact on UNM and the entire community. During his time at the University, he inspired generations of students, faculty and staff with his writings and teachings. This fund will support the development of a naming space for Mr. Anaya, The Rudolfo Anaya Sala located in Zimmerman Library. The space is one of the busiest locations in the library as people gather to enter the lecture room, for special events or just to sit and reflect or collaborate with peers. In addition, the space will be used to feature Anaya’s life and works via digital display and also memorabilia from his collection.
Anaya is recognized around the world for his works portraying the Chicano experience and was heralded as the Godfather of Chicana/o letters. His talent for capturing New Mexico on pen and paper is known around the world, as is his 1972 classic, Bless Me, Última. The University of New Mexico is privileged to hold a significant portion of Anaya’s manuscripts and papers in its University Libraries Center for Southwest Research special collections. University Libraries also created and hosts the Rudolfo Anaya Digital Archive, an online resource that showcases Anaya’s life and work.
Mr. Anaya is so deserving of this honor for his many years of service and the impact he has had and continues to have in the state of New Mexico and across the world.
