Michelle Coons is the President of First National Bank of Santa Fe and First National Rio Grande, which are part of the Strategic Growth Bancorp family, a regional bank holding company focused on ongoing growth throughout the Southwest. She is the bank’s first woman president since its inception in 1870 and a 32-year New Mexico veteran in this industry. First National’s New Mexico presence includes Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Albuquerque, and Las Cruces.
Michelle is a graduate of UNM’s Robert O. Anderson School of Management, having earned her BBA in 1983 and has been an ongoing volunteer at the university for over 30 years. She served as UNM’s National Alumni Association President in 1995 at the age of 34 and was inducted into the Anderson Hall of Fame in 2003. She is a past recipient of the Zia Award, the Erna S. Fergusson Alumni Award, and past board chair of the Robert O. Anderson School of Management Foundation and the Anderson School’s National Advisory board. Currently, Michelle is the bard chair for the UNM Foundation, immediate past chair of Acción NM, CO, AZ, NV and TX, and board member of the Spaceport Authority, Albuquerque Economic Development, and UNM Hospital. Other past leadership service includes chairing the United Way of Central New Mexico 2013 campaign and Association of Commerce and Industry board chair.
