Presidential Scholarship Program

Many of New Mexico’s highest achieving and most committed high school graduates attend UNM each year thanks to their Presidential Scholarship.

These scholars earned the right to be called Presidential Scholars through their academic performance and community service. They enrich New Mexico and exemplify student success as Lobos on the UNM campus throughout their college careers and long after they graduate. With an annual gift of $3,200, you will create your very own named Presidential Scholarship. This award is currently valued at over $14,000 with the help of our leveraged funds, and it covers a Scholar’s tuition, fees, books and more. As a Sponsor, you are matched with a Presidential Scholar, attend special invitation-only events, and have an opportunity to make a personal connection with the student whose life you are helping to change. Alternately, you may make a gift of any size to the UNM Presidential Scholarship Program and “Share a Scholar” with other generous donors. These gifts make a difference by providing many additional Presidential Scholarships. For giving in perpetuity, an investment of $75,000 or more establishes an endowed Presidential Scholarship, which can bear the donor’s name, or the name of a living or deceased loved one, colleague, or mentor. You may create an endowment with a onetime gift or pay over three years or less.

New Graduate Award recently announced at the 2024 Spring Dinner

The Presidential Scholarship program changes lives and embodies the best of New Mexico for Lobos, providing Scholars the ability to focus on their educational careers with significantly less financial burden. Now it's time for us to do more! That's why a few forward-thinking donors stepped forward to help launch the first of its kind Presidential Scholarship Graduate Award. This scholarship will help recruit and retain Presidential Scholars after they graduate with a bachelor's degree and provide much needed financial assistance to attend UNM graduate school. Your support will keep Presidential Scholars at UNM through our graduate scholarship. With a gift, you provide the assistance a student needs to pursue their next step towards success, which is otherwise not possible for some.

GRADUATE AWARD FUNDS:
Graduate Award – With an annual gift of $5,000, you will create your very own named Presidential Scholarship Graduate Award. You will be invited to select program events and be included in all our outreach efforts.

Graduate Award Share-a-Scholar – Make a gift of any size that is meaningful to you, and you will join a host of other donors who “Share a Scholar” for our Graduate Award.

Graduate Award Endowments - A gift of $125,000 or more over 3-5 years establishes a Presidential Scholarship Graduate Award endowment fund which can bear the name of the donor, the name of a living or deceased loved one, colleague, or mentor. This gift will support a Scholar in perpetuity.
